The Penncrest Lions held their twelfth annual Teddy Bear Toss this past Wednesday night in which fans threw over 150 stuffed animals onto the ice immediately following the Lions game against the Strath Haven Panthers.

“We always wanted to do something different, so we could give back to the community” stated Lions head coach Steve Mescanti. “I was at a junior game in Canada years ago and saw the toss and that’s how it began” added Mescanti.

This year the stuff animals will be donated to the St. Christopher Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia on December 12. In addition to the stuff animals, the team will be donating coloring books and crayons to the patients. The donation will be made in conjunction with the hospital’s hospitality day.

“It has been a great experience for our teams throughout the years” said Mescanti. “It is a truly humbling experience for the boys to see and be around individuals who are less fortunate. It is very moving, but the boys love it! Plus, the hospital feeds them, so the boys are always up for food” laughed Mescanti.

“I would like thank all the fans who were able to bring all the stuff animals, so we could donate them on their behalf. I look forward to this every year” concluded Mescanti.
