Thursday’s boys’ varsity game recap: Daily’s two goals lead Haverford to 5- 3 win

Haverford 5 @ Springfield 3
Andrew Daily scored two goals to lead Haverford to a 5 – 3 victory of Springfield. Steven Griffin got the Cougars on the board first just 1:04 into the game to give Springfield an early 1 -0 lead. Daily would score his first goal of the game at 5:31 into the opening period to tie it. The Cougars would take back the lead when Chad Ruppert scored with 4:37 left in the first. Trailing 2 – 1 entering the second period, the Fords would score two straight goals. Springfield’s Colin Hopkins was called for cross-checking to give the Fords the man advantage at 6:15 into the middle stanza. A minute and a half later Quinn Hawley would knot the score at two. With 1:08 remaining in the second, Daily would hit the back of the net to give Haverford a 3 – 2 lead. Just twenty-three seconds into the third period Alex Gattone would double the Fords margin. Haverford’s Justin Harant was called for cross-checking at the 6:38 to put the Cougars on the powerplay. Springfield’s Tom Gabel would bring the Cougars within one but it wasn’t enough as Haverford’s Jacob Orazi closed out the scoring with 2:35 left in the game to give the Fords a 5 – 3. Tyler Cassidy stopped 27 of 30 shots in the win while Luca DiMarcantonio turned aside 18 of 23 shots in defeat. Box score.
