Friday’s boys’ varsity game recaps: Summers & McGinnus’ hat tricks lead Sun Valley to 9 – 4 win

Sun Valley 9 @ Marple-Newtown 4
Lucis Summers and Gavin McGinnus each had a hat trick and Patrick Brees added two goals to power Sun Valley to a 9 – 4 win over Marple-Newtown. Entering the second period tied at one, the Vanguards scored five unanswered goals to take a commanding 6 – 1. However, the Tigers made a valiant comeback by scoring three consecutives goals, including two from Liam Rode – who also had a hat trick – and Max DiCola. But McGinnus, Summers and Brees closed out the scoring for Sun Valley. Ryan Duffield stopped 19 of 23 shots in the win while Domenic Mandell turned aside 30 of 39 shots.

Downingtown East 3 @ Conestoga 3 – OT
In an extremely well-played game, Stoga’s forward Jayden Sison scored with forty-six seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game at three. The Cougars took a 1 – 0 lead when CJ Boyd hit the back of the net with 6:38 left in the first. The ICSHL’s leading goal scorer Frank Konopasek tied the game just thirty-seven seconds into the middle period. East would regain the lead when Nicholas Rosati lite the lamp at 5:43 into the third. Sison would score his first goal of the game to make it 2 – 2. The Cougars reclaimed the lead with 2:25 remaining in regulation on a goal by Ryan Pogharain but Sison’s second goal of the night would close out the scoring for both teams. Matt Shandler stopped 29 of 32 shots for the Cougars while Malcolm Roeder turned asided 42 of 45 for Stoga.

Downingtown West 0 @ Unionville 1
Wearing pink jerseys for Unite for Her/Pink the Rink awareness, Unionville’s Dylan Blackburn scored the lone goal at 3:42 into the second period to give the Indians a 1 – 0 win over the Whippets. Unionville’s Keegan Craig stopped all 27 shots he faced for the shutout while Eric West turned aside 34 of 35 in defeat.
