Friday’s boys’ varsity game recaps: Rustin overcomes 4 goal deficit to win 7 – 5

Cardinal O’Hara 5 @ WC Bayard Rustin 7
The Rustin Knights scored six unanswered goals to overcome a 5 – 1 deficit to defeat Cardinal O’Hara 7 – 5. Forward Jacob Pohlig scored three of the Lions first four goals. Michael Anastasi scored just 4:27 into the second period to give O’Hara a commanding four goal lead. Rustin’s Matt Owen’s would lite the lamp with 8:40 left in the second to cut the lead to two. Nicholas Ferraro would score two straight goals to bring the Knights within one.  Then Matt Owens would score the tying goal with 8:26 left in the game. Owens that would score his second straight goal with under a minute left in the game to give the Knights the lead. Lucas Christie would close out the scoring with time about to expire. Conor Marley stopped 23 of 28 shots in the win while Troy Percival turned aside 32 of 39 shots in defeat. Box score.

Unionville 3 @ Downingtown West 4 – OT
Nick Higgins scored thirty-six seconds into overtime to give the Whippets a thrilling 4 – 3 win over Unionville. Philippe Doucette scored just a minute into the game to give the Indians an early 1 – 0 lead. Alex Connolly and Trevor Butch would score to give West a 2 – 1 lead going into the second period. Dylan Blackburn would tie the game at two only twenty-seven seconds into the middle stanza. Doucette would lite the lamp the second time to give the Indians a 3 – 2 lead. With 4:24 remaining in the period, Zakari Spero would knot the score at three on a powerplay goal, which led up to Higgins game winner in the extra period. Eric West turned aside 23 of 26 shots for West while Keigan Craig stopped 28 of 32 shots in defeat. Box score.

Garnet Valley 6 @ Penncrest 3
The Jaguars would get out to a 3 – 0 lead on goals from Own Conway, Matt Wood and Nick Port. Quentin Baker would get the Lions on the board with 3:22 into the second period. Thirty-nine seconds later Ben Samano would cut Garnet Valley’s lead to one. Luke Peterson would give the Jaguars back the two-goal lead just thirty-four seconds later. Ian McDougall would make it a 4 – 3 game with 5:30 left in the middle period but it wasn’t enough for the Lions as Garnet Valley’s Patrick Vaughan and Wood would score two, third period goals to give the Jaguars the 6 – 3 win.  Corien Zavod stopped 19 of 22 shots for the Jaguars while John Mundy turned aside 27 of 33 shots for the Lions. Ridley 2 @ Springfield 1
Down 1 – 0 entering the third period, the Raiders would score two goals for the come-from-behind victory. Springfield’s Dominick Romolini hit the back of the net just 4:27 into the opening period to give the Cougars a 1 – 0. After a scoreless second, Ridley’s Dan Lawless would tie the game just thirty-eight seconds into the final period. Colin Berry would score the game winner for Ridley with 3:28 left in regulation.  Nick Giuliano stopped 32 of 33 shots for the Raiders and James Donegan turned aside 20 of shots for the Cougars. Box score.
