Graney leads O’Hara’s comeback to win JV President Cup Championship in OT

Steve Graney scored his fourth goal of the game at 7:36 into overtime to give Cardinal O’Hara a 7 – 6 victory over Owen J. Roberts to win the Junior Varsity President Cup Championship.

O’Hara was trailing 5 – 1 after the first period.

Phillip Shiffler got the Wildcats on the board first after hitting the back of the net just 2:32 into the game. Noah Ackerman would double the Wildcats lead four minutes later. Ten seconds after Owen J. Roberts took a two-goal lead, Graney would cut the lead in half with his first goal of the game.

Shiffler would score two more goals and Dylan Mercadante lit the lamp to give the Wildcats a commanding 5 – 1 lead going into the second period.

The Lions would make it a 5 – 4 game during the middle stanza after Graney scored two goals while Nick D’Arcy added another.

Ava Rinker would give the Wildcats a 6 – 4 lead 4:30 into the third with a short-handed goal. Forty-five seconds later, Joey Lalla would make it 6 – 5.

With time running out in regulation, the Lions pulled goalie Christian Green for the extra attacker. David Monastra would tie the game at six with 1:08 left in the third period to set up Graney’s heroics in overtime.
