Avon Grove names Sean Cannon as new Boys’ Varsity Head Coach

The Avon Grove Red Devils are pleased to announce that the school has hired Sean Cannon as the boys’ varsity ice hockey coach beginning with the upcoming 2019-20 season.

Cannon is a well-respected coach in the area. The past four seasons he has been a very successful head coach for the Valley Forge Minutemen Tier 1 18U team. He also has been an assist with the Minutemen’s 16U team as well.

Matt Owens goal at 11:39 into overtime gave the WC Bayard Rustin Knights a 6 – 5 win over the Pinnacle Pioneers. The victory moves Rustin into the National semi-finals. The Knights will play tonight at 7:30PM against the winner of the Santa Margarita Catholic/Bishop O'Connell game.

Ian Strasinski had three goals, Owens had two and Nicholas Ferraro scored one.

Trailing 5-3 in the third, Owens brought the Knights within one at 6:46. Two minutes and nineteen seconds later Stransinski scored his third goal of the game to send it into the extra session.

Owens has scored eleven goals in four games.

Joel Keller stopped 16 of 21 shots in the win.

The WC Bayard Rustin Knights lost today 5 – 4 in a shootout to the Cleveland Wildcats. Despite the loss, the Knights are the first seed in the NHL division with seven points (2-0-0-1) after three games of pool play.

Trailing 2 – 0 after the first period, the Knights would tie it on goals from Matt Owens and Logan Gagliardi. However, with time running out in the middle period, the Wildcats took a 3 – 2 lead.

Owens would tie the game at three and Ian Strasinski would give Rustin a 4 – 3. But with time expiring in the game, the Wildcats would tie it and send it into overtime. After a scoreless overtime, the Wildcats scored twice in the shootout.

Owens has scored nine goals in three games.

The Knights are tentatively scheduled to play the Pinnacle Pioneers (Phoenix, AZ) tomorrow at noon.
