Admission during last Tuesday’s All-Star game day at Ice Line was free to all fans who attended a game except for the Central/Ches-Mont contest. Known as the “Hunger Game,” a fee was charged because the proceeds were donated to the food banks in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties.

“We love doing this” said Haverford High head coach John Povey, who was one of the coaches for the Central team. “All of the players who participate in this game are selected by the opposing coaches in the division. It’s an honor for them to play in it – not only on the ice but off it. The players know their efforts are a big part of giving back to the community” concluded Povey.

This was the fifth year for the Hunger Game, which Central won 9 – 6. This year’s game raised over $500 and more than $2,500 has been raised in total during the five years.

“We are very proud of the fact that we are giving back to the community” stated Povey. “But we can’t do it by ourselves. We would like to thank Ice Line for providing the ice for free and all of the officials who donated their services as well” said Povey.

Despite the loss, Ches-Mont has a 3 – 2 edge during the annual all-star game. The real winners are the less fortunate in the local counties.
