Friday’s boys’ varsity game recaps: Avon Grove upends Kennett

Kennett 2 @ Avon Grove 4
Josh Sepela and Ian Hurver each had a goal and an assist to lead the Devils to a 4 – 2 over Kennett. Hurver would get the Devils on the board first just 5:19 into the opening period. A minute later JT McDonald would double Avon Grove’s lead. But the Liberty South leading Blue Demons didn’t cave it. Two minutes after the Devils went up by two, Thomas Halsted hit the back of the net to cut Kennett’s deficit in half. The Blue Demons would tie it just twenty-three seconds into the third period off a Blake Richman shot. Sepela would break the tie when he beat Kennett’s goalie Tyler Richman to take a 3 – 2 lead. Luke Zotter would add an insurance goal with seven minutes remaining to make it a 4 – 2 game.

Lower Merion 3 @ Conestoga 2
Schulyer Dillon scored two goals and Shane Leonard added another to lead the Aces to a 3 -2 win over Conestoga. The teams exchanged goals throughout the game. First, Dillon got Lower Merion on the board just 1:43 into the opening period. Jayden Sison would tie the game halfway through the second then Leonard tied a minute and a half later. Down by one entering the third, Sison scored his second goal of the game at 7:57 of the final period. Dillon’s second goal with 3:48 left in regulation gave the Aces the win.

Ridley 3 @ Perkiomen Valley 6
Jake Stasyk had two goals while Matt Maiden, Luke Gilronan, Jacob Neveil and Michael Walters hit the back of the net to propel the Vikings to a 6 – 3 win over Ridley.

WC Bayard Rustin 8 @ Downingtown West 5

Salesianum 4 @ Delaware Military Academy 2
After a 2-0 defeat of Delaware Military Academy earlier in the season, Salesianum broke a 2-2 tie in the third period to once again beat the Seahawks this time by a score of 4-2. Dylan Johnson, who tied the game late in the first for the Sallies, set up junior forward Ethan Scharp for the game-winning goal just 28 seconds into the third period. Graham Burke again was victorious in net for Salesianum, saving 28 of 30 shots (Source: Delaware Hockey Night). Box score.

Penncrest 6 @ Radnor 3
Cameron Wolf had three points (2 goals and 1 assist) and Ian McDougall had two points (1 goal and 1 assist) to lead the Lions to a 6 – 3 win over Radnor. Corey Anderson, Shane Kokoska and Sean Smolcynski lit the lamp for Penncrest. Teddy Girton scored twice for Radnor. Box score.

WC Henderson 5 @ WC East 2

WC Bayard Rustin 0 @ WC East 5
Michael Cardarelli had a hat trick and Joseph Galitski stopped all 34 shots he faced as the Vikings defeated Rustin 5 – 0. The win enabled WC East to move within a point of the second place Knights. Richie Mullineaux and Chase Bacnel also scored for the Vikings.

Penncrest 1 @ Conestoga 9
Will Schnorr had seven points (1 goal and 6 assists), Frank Konopasek had six points (4 goals and 2 assists) and Jayden Sison had five points (3 goals and 2 assists) to lead the Pioneers to a 9 – 1 win over Penncrest.  The win moves Conestoga into a first-place tie in the Central division. Boyertown 11 @ Archbishop Carroll 1
Jackson Novak had seven points (2 goals and 5 assists), Adam Hennessey had five points (4 goals and 1 assist) and Owen Shepard and Sean Sutterby each scored two goals to lead the Bears to an 11 – 1 win over Archbishop Carroll.

Bishop Shanahan 1 @ Unionville 11
Ben Brucker, Cole Spano and Braden Speck each scored two goals and four others hit the back of the net to lead the Indians to an 11 – 1 win over Bishop Shanahan.

Avon Grove 0 @ Downingtown East 4
After a scoreless first period, Ryan Prestayko put the Cougars on the board 3:35 into the second period. With five minutes left in the middle stanza, Ethan Clay would double the Cougars lead. Theo Vela and Michael Bolger also scored for Downingtown East. Matt Shandler stopped all twenty-two shots he faced for the shutout.

Haverford 7 @ Radnor 1
Jagur McClelland had four points (2 goals and 2 assists), Alex Gattone and Justin Harant scored two goals apiece to lead Haverford to a 7 – 1 win over Radnor. Tyler Cassidy turned aside 20 of 21 shots he faced. Box score.
