Downs’ goal in OT gives Salesianum JV Dugan Cup Championship

Logan Downs scored at 7:29 into overtime to give Salesianum a 6 – 5 victory of Shanahan-Springford in the JV Dugan Cup Championship.

It was Downs’ fifth goal of the game!

Shanahan-Springford took an early two-goal lead. Justin Kratz opened the scoring just four minutes into the game and then Gavin Tarity scored with 6:37 left in the first to double Shanahan-Springford’s lead.

Downs would score an unassisted goal with 2:12 remaining in the first to cut the Sallies deficit in half.

The Sallies would tie it on Downs’ second goal five minutes into the middle stanza then Jonathan Anthony would give Salesianum a 3 – 2 lead at 9:51 of the second period. Twenty seconds later Daniel Charlton would knot the score at three. Shanahan-Springford would take a 4 – 3 lead when Tarity would light the lamp the second time of the game midway through the second.

The start of the third saw two ties and a lead change when three goals were scored within the first six minutes of the period.  Downs’ tied the score at 4:56 into the final period. Fifty-six seconds later Shanahan-Springford regained the lead when Aidan Spotts hit the back of the net to make it 5 – 4. Shananhan-Springford’s lead was short-lived, however, when Downs’ would score his fourth goal of the game twelve seconds later to tie the game at five.

After regulation ended tied at five, Downs’ ended his magical night with his fifth goal of the game to give Salesianum the JV Dugan Cup championship.

The WC Bayard Rustin JV Blue team defeated Penncrest-Haven JV 3 – 1 tonight to win the Sammartino Cup.Penncrest-Haven took a 1 – 0 lead midway through the first on a Dylan McDougall goal. The Knights would tie it at one with 3:43 left in the second when Gavin Dempsey hit the back of the net. Justin Rhein would give Rustin the go-ahead goal 5:50 into the final period. Aiden Stromberg would score an empty net goal with six seconds remaining in regulation to secure the Sammartino championship for the Knights.

Unionville to host Unite for Her/Pink the Rink event on January 11

This Friday – January 11 - all three of Unionville High School’s hockey teams will be hosting a Unite for Her/Pink the Rink event. The Boys Varsity team will be wearing pink jerseys; there will be a bake sale and Chuck-A-Puck will be held during an intermission will all proceeds benefiting Unite for Her. The games will be held at Ice Line in West Chester, PA. Unionville’s schedule for Friday night is as follows:

  1. Girls Varsity vs Rustin at 7:45PM (rink #4)
  2. Boys Varsity vs. Downingtown West at 8:05PM (rink #3)
  3. Junior Varsity vs. Salesianum at 9:45PM (rink #2)
